York's first School Green Travel Guide
Directions, maps and details on all the green methods of travel are listed, with telephone numbers and web site information. Car sharing is also promoted in order to reduce total mileage.
The Steiner School has good cycle parking facilities, but only limited car parking. As part of its travel plan it has improved access through covered cycle racks and also a walking and cycling entrance.
The new travel guide was voluntarily written by Anna Semlyen, a parent at the school. Anna is a traffic reduction consultant and author of Cutting Your Car Use, which has sold over 100,000 copies in the UK and North America. She has twice written green travel guides for the University of York.
Helen McFall, a Steiner class teacher said "I've been cycling to school for nearly 20 years. The school has an annual sponsored cycle ride along the York to Selby Cycle Route. Last July my class did 150 miles round cycle ride for their Geography field trip. We are very keen on cycling so the Green Travel Guide is an excellent addition to our environmental efforts."
Anna Semlyen is available to speak to about this anytime on 07891 989310
A people piece about Anna Semlyen's green commitment to travel is also possible.
